Spirits of the Dead består av Ole Øvstedal på gitar, Ragnar Vikse på vokal, Geir Thorstensen på trommer og Kristian Hultgren på bass. Gitarist, låtskriver og produsent Ole Øvstedal har spilt med eller i blant annet Euroboys, Thom Hell og Dharma. Vokalist Ragnar Vikse har tidliger spilt med viking-metalbandet Einherjer.

Med andre ord har kvartetten lang erfaring fra faget. Det er et stort sjangersprang fra Thom Hell til Einherjer, og man kan si at Spirits Of The Dead har lagt seg en plass midt mellom - et sted inne i landskapet til Led Zeppelin, Queens of the Stoneage, Black Mountain og Black Sabbath.

Debutalbumet ble gitt ut på egen label i 2008 men etter at første opplaget ble utsolgt, er albumet nå re-utgitt på Big Dipper Records i 2010 på CD og LP over hele Europa og har blitt mottatt med utelukkende strålende kritikker, i tillegg til en europaturne spilte bandet i 2008 på North by North East i Toronto, Canada.
